Habits

I have been slacking on my good habits and this blog is about my struggles. If you know me, you know that I can get very busy for long periods of time. That’s when I seem to get lazy with the good habits. I figure if I put them on paper, it will give God another way to push me.

1)      Write a ‘To Do List’ every day.
2)      On that list should be all of the following.
3)      Stretch at least 10 minutes.
4)      15 minutes or more in the class room of silence before work.
5)      Pray the Rosary.
6)      Pray the Devine Mercy.
7)      10 minutes or longer of prayer or something religious before sleep.

I saw Mathew Kelly a few years ago and he pushed the idea of quiet time with God. I don’t seem to be at peace if I don’t have that morning time with my best friend (Father, Savior and Spirit). I vent out all that is troubling me and then I focus on listening. I often say: “I listen now.”  Sometimes I get a wonderful inspiration or the feeling of being loved. Sometimes I get a lecture or I remember some part of my life that I should be working on. The times that I don’t get anything, I still get the discipline of giving time to God. He is my best friend. I love Him. I should spend time with Him every day.

I used to just say the act of contrition before bed. Lately it seems to be an automatic, non thinking action. That’s not good enough. Now, I sit and reflect on the day. I forgive those who I may not have forgiven instantly. Then, I chastise and forgive myself for my failings. Then, I think about how to do better or I read something religious. Falling asleep is so much easier.

I hope this helps you as much as it helps me. The trick is to not get lazy about it.
