Over the holiday I did not have a lot of time to quietly pray, so I started praying while falling a sleep, any time I woke in the night and just before I got up in the morning. I was having fun with family during the day, so many of my prayers involved thanking God. Thinking of the next day I began to pray: "Thank you Lord because I get to …(play Wii golf with my nephew or what ever.)"
On the last night it occurred to me that this concept should be applied to all my prayers. I should be thankful for everything.
This has given me a practical way:
To fight temptation “Thank you Lord. I get to do the right thing.”
To offer up suffering “Thank you Lord for this headache. I get to use it as a prayer.”
Anything and everything is now a prayer of thanksgiving because “I get to….”
In short I get to do God’s will and I get to trust Him with all the things that happen during my day, week…life. Remember my last post. My will is His will and …just reread it and you will see how it ties in.
This new way of living is bringing me inner joy almost all the time. I say ‘almost’ because I need more practice and I sin. But I get to feel the pain of the sin and that is joyful because it stems from my love of God and I get to learn a lesson in how to improve.
